Custom Surfboard Painting in Bouznika: Colour, Logos, and Honest Limits

What custom surfboard painting in Bouznika actually involves — prep, resin, UV, and when paint is art versus when you just need a solid ding repair first.

Custom Surfboard Painting in Bouznika: Colour, Logos, and Honest Limits

Custom surfboard painting Bouznika sits in a strange place between craft and Instagram. People want a board that looks like it belongs on this coast — colour, a name, a pattern — and they also want to paddle tomorrow.

In the shop, paint is the last chapter. Glass is the book. If you skip that order, the Atlantic peels your artwork off a wet rail and you will think paint “does not last in Morocco.” Paint lasts. Water under paint does not.

Repair first, always

Walk in with photos of the whole board, not only the tail you want gold. I look for:

  • Open dings and wet foam
  • Soft decks
  • Fin boxes that have already started to walk
  • PU yellowing that will show through a light colour

Ding repair is the unromantic half. PU vs epoxy decides which pigments and resins we even pick up.

If the board is structurally tired, we talk restoration: fair the foam, new cloth, then colour. That is shaping-adjacent work, not a Sharpie.

What looks good after a season of sand

Bouznika is a beach break. Boards get dragged, stacked, sat on.

  • Bold blocks and strong lines age with dignity
  • Tiny script becomes a ghost
  • Metallic everything looks like a rental after UV
  • Dark decks show wax and knees; light decks show everything else — pick your poison

A Moroccan motif, a simple wave, a child’s drawing transferred large — those can be beautiful. A photoreal portrait on a rail you will smash in shorebreak is a heartbreak we can warn you about in advance.

The process, without mystique

  1. Agree the design and the deadline
  2. Fix structure
  3. Sand to a surface colour can hold
  4. Colour (sometimes under a lamination, sometimes in the hot coat — depends on the board)
  5. Cure, sand, finish
  6. You wax it and try not to throw it nose-first for one week

Resin has a smell and a clock. Winter cold slows us. Summer dust and flies have opinions too. This is a workshop next to an ocean, not a climate-controlled auto booth.

Prices and expectations

The public menu on board repair covers dings, boxes, plugs, delam. Paint and full restore are quoted, because a pinstripe is not a mural, and a mural on a rotten PU is not a mural.

Bring the board. If you are still in Casa, WhatsApp photos. If you want a full custom shape from a blank, that is a longer conversation than painting an existing board — see the foam blank basics if you are curious about that craft. Painting what you already ride is the usual request, and it is enough of a craft on its own.

How to brief a painter (me)

  • One or two reference images, not a Pinterest folder of forty
  • Colours you can name
  • Whether the board is a daily driver or a wall piece (be honest)
  • Flight date if you have one

Then let the resin do what resin does. A rushed gloss for a plane is how we both dislike each other.

Colour is joy. Structure is why you still have a board to colour. In Bouznika we do both, in that order. Message contact when you are ready to show the patient.

Frequently asked questions

Can you paint a logo or a Moroccan pattern on my board?
Yes, within what resin and cloth will hold. Simple colour blocks and bold graphics survive the beach better than tiny photographic detail. Bring a reference and we will tell you what will still look like itself after a season of sand.
Do I need a full restore before paint?
If the glass is open, yellowed, or soft, paint on top is makeup on a leak. We repair first, then talk colour. A pretty board that drinks water is still a worse board.
How long does a paint job take?
Longer than a 100 dh ding. Layout, masking, pigment, hot coat, sanding, cure. If you fly in four days, we may only have time to close holes. Say your date on the first message.
Will paint change how the board surfs?
A thin colour work should not. Heavy fills, extra cloth, or a full restore can add a bit of weight. We will say if your ‘just paint it’ request is actually a new glass job.
